Kodiak Island is accessible by air (a 45-minute flight from Anchorage) and by the Alaska Marine Highway System’s ferries from Homer.

Generally, June through August are the warmest months, but ultimately the weather can be as variable in Alaska as it is anywhere else. To put it another way: Kodiak Island is a temperate rain forest environment and enjoys mild coastal weather patterns with moderate precipitation and occasional high winds. Average annual rainfall is 67 inches. Come prepared for sunny, warm days as well as cool rainy ones. In the summer, the long days and comfortable temperatures help to make your vacation on the Emerald Isle as enjoyable as it is beautiful.
Marty knows a lot about the ocean. Formerly the harbormaster for Kodiak, his roots go back to the 1930’s when his family settled on Kodiak Island–which means he has fun stories to tell.
The dress code for Kodiak (and our dinner cruises) is what we call “Kodiak casual.” Dress in layers so you are prepared for any weather. Forget down-filled clothing and sleeping bags.
